About Humanities E-Books LLP
Humanities-Ebooks was founded in 2006 by a notable Wordsworth scholar Dr. Richard Gravil. The vision was a new type of academic and educational publishing using innovative technology to give authors a better and fairer return on their work, affordable books for readers and reduce environmental impact through ebooks rather than printed copies. Over the years our vision and values have not changed and become more relevant than ever. We also remain equally committed to using new technologies (including advances in artificial intelligence) to pioneer new methods of making our titles accessible to the widest possible audience.
Humanities E-Books continues to be led by practicing academics who have been involved since its inception with Professor Mark Addis as the Managing Director. In that sense we are our authors and readers which shapes everything we do. Our books are:
Aimed at wide readership, citation and impact
High quality with design matching the best of traditional print in its elegance.
Meet the highest accessibility standards

Our Philosophy
Humanities E-Books is an academic cooperative based on three values: most of the price of an academic book belongs to the author or publisher Academic and educational publications do not have to be expensive in terms of price or resource consumption. Ezine can match the best of traditional print in its elegance. Our books are: high quality well designed and elegant produced to meet the highest accessibility standards available in various electronic formats and as print on demand published quickly (two months from final submission to publication) easy to use on desktops, laptops and mobile devices affordable for students, individual scholars, and smaller libraries available to libraries around the world through our library aggregators aimed at a wide audience, citation and impact Humanities E-Books was founded and continues to be led by practicing scholars who have an understanding of scholarly and educational publishing from the perspective of participating in it. In that sense we are our authors and that shapes everything we do.
Remuneration
Humanities E-Books contracts ensure that author and editor royalties are directly linked to the sales of their titles and the number of titles published with us. Contracts ensure that the greater the turnover on a title or titles results in a higher level of royalties. Authors receive a minimum percentage of net receipts of the sale price which is significantly higher than the publishing industry average.
Submitting a Proposal
All new titles go through a peer review process from the initial proposal to assessment of the final manuscript. Proposals are promptly reviewed and we work collaboratively with authors to develop high quality titles. We aim for a diverse and inclusive range of academic (especially early career scholars) and expert authors. What matters is that titles we publish are engaging, that they are grounded upon in depth knowledge of the subject matter, and well written. In other words we would like authors and editors to write the kind of books they would enjoy reading.
If you are interested in specialist copy editing, proof reading, and illustration services to support publication of your manuscript please contact us. Once the final manuscript is accepted publication is quick. Our publication process allows authors to revise their titles for second and subsequent editions. Proposals for existing series should be emailed to the relevant Editor listed on the contacts page.
For all other proposals including but not restricted to scholarly essays, monographs, scholarly editions, edited collections, podcasts (either individual or series) and for new series please email info@humanities-ebooks.co.uk.
What we Publish
Proposals for new ebooks across various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences are welcome. We aim to publish a diverse and inclusive range of academic authors (especially early career scholars) and established scholars. What matters is that titles we publish are engaging, grounded in deep subject knowledge and well written. In other words we would like authors and editors to create the kind of books they would enjoy reading.
Authors receive a percentage of gross receipts which is significantly higher than the publishing industry average. Our peer reviewed process ensures quality publications which meet high academic standards. Humanities-Ebooks provides a platform for your work to reach a global audience. Currently we have readers in over seventy countries worldwide with that number growing annually.
Monographs, Editions and Collections
Original peer reviewed monographs, scholarly editions and thematically unified collections are published at competitive prices. These are aimed at academics and libraries as an alternative to prohibitive printed book prices.
Reprints of Monographs, Editions and Collections
Reprints of sought after monographs, scholarly editions and collections where there is reversion of copyright to the author are published. Such works are usually but not necessarily revised. Recent standard contracts will usually preclude formal copyright reversion. However, there may well be the right to ask for a new edition and take the book to another publisher if the request is declined.
Monograph Series
Each series of Humanities-Ebooks monographs makes a contribution to scholarship to a particular field of research and is edited to the highest standards. Monographs have equivalent standing to printed ones whilst offering considerable advantages with respect to affordability, availability, searchability, and portability.

Scholarly work or critical work at extended essay (about 12000 to 25000 words) or book length on authors and works covered by Genre Fiction Sightlines [add hyperlink] series
Essay collections whether by an individual author or edited ones
Work on crime, science fiction and children's writing (including the collisions between these) are particularly welcome
Humanities Insights and Genre Fiction Sightlines
Humanities Insights and Genre Fiction Sightlines are pedagogic series offering stimulating yet authoritative introductions to key topics in literature, history, philosophy and genre fiction. Titles in the series are designed to appeal to sixth formers and their teachers, college and university students who can read for themselves and do not want utilitarian text summaries or model answers. They are typically 25000~30000 words long and modestly priced. Insights and Sightlines are by experts sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm to create introductions they would recommend to their own students and expect other academics to recommend to theirs.
The writing style is lucid and reader friendly style without assuming graduate level reading competence. In particular jargon is avoided or glossed, allusions made self explanatory; and technical terms defined as they appear. In place of summaries, model answers and notes of the kind found in teaching editions there is a more challenging and dialogic approach which introduces textual strategies, hermeneutic issues and contemporary debate in a lively manner. It is characteristic of the series that each title will raise rather more questions than it answers, and set readers thinking about questions before suggesting how they might be answered.
Writing for either series is an opportunity for experts to crystallise ideas which have produced engagement, debate and insight when teaching. This template and handbook should be used when writing an Insight or Sightline.
